Despite the 70& YoY growth, Tata Punch EV showed an 11% decrease in MoM compared to the 9,000 units sold in July 2024.
Tata Motors Punch EV continues to be a major contributor to Tata’s overall car sales, recording 8,000 units in sales in August 2024. This marks a significant jump from the 4,700 units sold in August last year, resulting in a 70% year-on-year (YoY) growth.
The newly launched Punch EV had a strong start this year in June 2024, when Tata Motors handed over 1,200 units to customers who did pre-bookings on the very first day of delivery. The response was extraordinary, with 40,000 bookings flowing in just hours after the booking window opened. Interestingly, around 60% of the buyers opted for the long-range variants of the Nexon EV, reflecting strong interest in the extended driving range of this compact electric SUV.
Since its launch, the Punch EV has been a key player in Tata’s electric lineup. In its first debut month in June 2024, it recorded 9,000 units in sales. Although 1000 units less, August’s sales of 8,000 units further strengthened the model’s success in India, almost doubling the 4,700 units sold in the same month last year.
However, while the YoY numbers are quite impressive to see, there was a slight dip in the month-on-month (MoM) comparison of Punch EV sales, with an 11% decrease compared to the 9,000 units sold in July 2024. The Punch EV is offered in several variants, including Smart, Smart Plus, Adventure, and Adventure Plus. While the Smart Plus version is the more affordable variant, the more feature-packed Adventure and Adventure Plus variants have been the top choices for EV buyers in India.
There’s also a clear preference for the long-range variants among Indian EV buyers, mainly because of the extended driving range they offer. The Punch EV is priced between Rs. 10.99 Lakhs and rs 15.49 Lakhs, and it comes with two battery pack options: a 25 kWh battery, which delivers a range of 315 km, and a 35 kWh battery, providing up to 421 km on a full charge.

In terms of performance, the Punch EV is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor that delivers a peak power of 75 kW (100 hp) and a torque of 200 Nm. This enormous motor enables the Punch EV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.5 seconds. It also comes with a single-speed automatic transmission that offers smooth driving to owners. A larger boot has been added, enhancing the practicality of the model compared to its earlier versions.
Inside, the Punch EV boasts a range of modern features. It comes with a 26.03 cm touchscreen infotainment system and a 26.03 cm digital instrument cluster, along with a wireless smartphone charger and a six-speaker Harman audio system.
To ensure both convenience and safety, it also offers automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with auto hold, a blind view monitor, six airbags, and a panoramic sunroof.
The Tata Punch EV has played a key role in boosting Tata Motor’s total car sales this month, showing its popularity and growing market presence. In August 2024 alone, it sold 8,000 units, highlighting its strong demand among buyers. Now, with the festive season around the corner, sales are likely to climb even higher, thanks to rising consumer interest and exciting festive offers.
