Tata Motors Sees 14% YoY Dip and 5% MoM Drop in Electric Car Sales for August 2024
Tata Motors experienced a surprising decline in its electric car sales in August 2024, with total sales reaching 4,085 units. It marks a 14% year-on-year (YoY) decrease compared to the 4,777 units sold in August 2023. Also, there was a 5% month-on-month (MoM) drop in the sales figures from 4,300 units sold in July 2024. This downward trend in Tata’s EV sales in August 2024 is in line with the overall slowdown in India’s electric vehicle (EV) market, which saw a 10% YoY decline in August 2024.

Tata Nexon EV
The Nexon EV remained the best-selling electric car from Tata’s electric lineup in August 2024 like the previous month. It sold 12,389 units in August compared to the 8,049 units it sold in August 2023. Despite the drop, the Nexon EV made up 27.84% of Tata’s total electric car sales for the month.
Tata Punch EV
The Punch EV remains to be another strong performer in Tata’s EV lineup. It contributed significantly to Tata’s overall sales in August 2024. The Punch lineup, including the EV model, held a 35.44% share of the company’s total sales with 15,643 units in sales, showcasing its widespread popularity in India.
Tata Curvv EV
The all-new Curvv EV made a strong first-month sales debut with 3,455 unit sales, accounting for 7.83% of Tata’s total Tata Car sales this month. It highlights the increasing demand for EVs in India and Tata’s potential to fulfill it. It helped to make up for the decline in overall sales.
However, despite a decline, the Tata Tiago EV still managed to contribute with 4,733 units in sales in August 2024. Although the figures mark a 49.98% year-on-year (YoY) decline, Tiago EV held a 10.72% share of Tata’s total sales this month.
Lastly, the Tata Tigor EV saw a sharper decline, with sales dropping to 1,148 units in August 2024. Even with the decrease, it accounted for 2.60% of Tata’s total sales.
