BYD, the world’s second-largest electric car maker is set to enter India’s electric SUV market, currently dominated by Nexon EV, Kia EV6, and more. They’re bringing a new mid-size electric SUV called Seal U to the Indian markets. Once launched it is going to rival popular electric cars from Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, and Mahindra. BYD Seal U Launch and Price
The launch of BYD’s India first eSUV will happen at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025. It’s not just another launch by BYD, It’s a statement by the renowned electric carmaker. The Seal U will be available at a starting price of Rs. 41 Lakh and will rival India’s top carmakers. Apart from the cars, BYD already launched several electric buses and mid-size SUVs in India.
BYD Seal U Design
The upcoming Seal U is a proper full-size SUV measuring 4,775 mm long and 1,890 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. It has a great road presence similar to its electric sibling available outside India. Other notable design features include sharp lines, an X-shaped front, LED headlights, and 19-inch wheels.
Battery and Range
the Seal U comes in two battery pack options – a 71.8 kWh battery offering a range of 520 km and the 87 kWh variant offering a 605 km range on a single charge. The versatile range and battery capacity are set keeping in mind the buyer’s mindset in India. For India’s electric market, range and looks matter.
Interior and Boot Space
On the Inside of BYD Seal U, the cabin is spacious and offers many options for luxury. Rear seats fold 60:40 for extra space during trips turning the boot space from 552 litres to 1,440 litres. It’s built for drivers who need space for various reasons. Other practical features inside the cabin include a climate control setup, a dual-screen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, connected technology for Apple and Android phones, and the much anticipated wireless phone chargers.
BYD Seal U Rivals
Once launched the Seal u is likely to face tough competition in India, facing popular models set to launch around the same time such Maruti Suzuki eVX and Hyundai Creta EV. On the other hand, Tata and Mahindra are expanding their electric lineups too. It is going to be a tough battery of electric SUVs in India.
