BMW iX1 Electric Launched in India: BMW iX1 Price, range, features 2023

BMW launched the affordable luxury electric car BMW iX1 Electric in India at Rs 66.90 lakh with a 66.4 kWh battery offering 440 km of range per full charge.

BMW added another electric car to its Indian electric fleet with the launch of BMW iX1 electric on 28 September 2023. It is the electric version of its ICE counterparts and the fourth BMW electric car in India after iX, i7, and i4. The iX1 electric got sold out for a year within one hour of the commencement of booking.

Let us have a closer look at the newly launched BMW iX1:

BMW iX1 Electric: Battery and Range

The iX1 electric falls under the luxury electric car segment in the Indian market. The BMW iX1 Electric comes with a 66.4 kWh battery pack offering an excellent driving range of 440 km on a single full charge.

The introductory variant BMW iX1 xDrive30 M Sport comes with the same battery pack configurations of 66.4 kWh offering excellent driving range between 417-440 km per charge.

Being equipped with the latest rapid charging technology, the BMW iX1 electric’s battery takes about 45 minutes to get charged using a DC fast charger. As per our calculation, 5 minutes of DC charging offers 60 km of range in the BMW iX1 electric.

BMW iX1: Design

BMW’s luxury electric SUV has featured some state-of-the-art interior and exterior design since its first launch back in 2019. Similar is the design of the newly launched BMW iX1 electric which resembles its ICE counterparts to some extent. Let us learn about the interior and exterior design of the BMW iX1:

Interior

We had the opportunity to have a closer look at the BMW iX1 during its launch, and we were surprised to see tons of luxurious features aimed at comfortability and practicality. The cabin comes with two upholstery options – Veganza Perforated Oyster and Veganza Perforated Mocha, while the steering features an M Sports Leather with blue rings.

The highlight of the BMW iX1 electric’s interior which captured our attention was the dual integrated display setup, having a 10.25-inch driver’s display and 10.7-inch infotainment screen that runs on BMW’s i-Drive 8.5 OS. On the interior, the iX1 electric comes with a wide range of cool features like wireless phone charging, dual climate control, panoramic sunroof along 12 inbuilt Harman Kardon speakers.

There was plenty of legroom in the iX1 Electric’s introductory variant iX1 xDrive30 M Sport.
The interior of the BMW iX1 exceeded our expectations as it combines comfort, luxury, and technology in a great way.

Exterior

BMW iX1 electric’s exterior features a sharp and modern design like other luxury electric SUVs. Its exterior design resembles its ICE counterparts, however, a square kidney-shaped grille with an electric “i” branding represents its electric identity. We noticed an adaptive LED headlight at the front similar to the ICE iX1s and L-shaped horizontal LED taillights.

The BMW iX1 electric is 1845mm wide and 4500 mm long with a height of over 1616mm. One thing that stood out was the 18-inch light alloy wheels adding to the aesthetic of the car. It comes in 4 color options in India: Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic, Storm Bay Metallic, and Space Silver Metallic.

BMW iX1 Performance

The BMW iX1 comes with BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive technology which offers a rapid acceleration to achieve 0-100 in 5.7 seconds. The BMW iX1 electric’s 66.4 kWh battery propels the dual motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup, delivering a maximum power of 308 Bhp and torque of 494 Nm. The BMW iX1 electric’s 66.4 kWh battery offers a driving range of 440 km per full charge.

Speaking about the BMW iX1 SUV charging time, it comes with rapid charging technology. It takes around 25 minutes to fully charge the iX1 electric from 0-100% using a 120kW DC fast charger. 5 minutes of charging is likely to offer a range of 60 km. A 7.5 kW AC charger would take around 6 hours to fully charge the BMW iX1 battery.

BMW iX1 Price and Booking

The on-road price of the BMW iX1 starts at Rs. 66.90 Lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The introductory variant BMW iX1 xDrive30 M Sport is priced at Rs 66.90 lakhs (ex-showroom) with the same configurations as the former.

The BMW iX1’s booking started on 28 September 20230 and sold out within an hour of opening the booking window. The company will not take any new bookings of the iX1 variant for a year now

iX1 Electric Safety

BMW considered safety and comfortability while manufacturing this electric car. The BMW iX1 received a 5-star NCAP rating because of its advanced and state-of-the-art safety features. In terms of safety, the iX1 comes with 5 airbags, electronic stability control, a rear parking camera, park assist, hill assist, and a front collision detector with automatic braking.

BMW iX1 Rivals

BMW iX1 shares a similar design with most of the luxury electric SUVs in the market available today. Today, luxury electric SUVs showcase some state-of-the-art features that were never included in any SUV before this. Because of its size and features, the iX1 electric can be a rival to the already launched Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge.
