Northvolt sets up its first European battery mega-factory: Tough competitor to Tesla

Northvolt establishes its first battery mega-factory in Europe with the capacity to produce 60 gigawatt/ hours of power which could charge one million EVs annually.

Sweden-based battery developer and manufacturer, Northvolt started construction of its first battery mega-factory in Europe on 29 Dec. This new battery mega-factory would produce 60 gigawatt/hour of power which will approximately charge one million EVs per year.

With the construction of such a massive battery factory, Northvolt gives strong competition to its contemporaries like Tesla and Asian producers who are yet to launch such projects in the European countries. 

Northvolt stated- “Today is a great milestone for Northvolt for which the team has worked very hard to achieve. Of course, this first cell is only the beginning. Over the course of the coming years, we look forward to Northvolt Ett expanding its production capacity greatly to enable the European transition to clean energy.”

Northvolt has already received an order worth 30 billion USD from various European EV companies which include- BMW, Volkswagen, Sweden’s Volvo, and many others. With such hiked pre-orders, the company is likely to declare its second factory in Europe.

Northvolt’s chief execute, Peter Carlsson said – “Today is a great milestone for Northvolt which the team has worked very hard to achieve” and assuring further he said- “ Of course, this first cell is only the beginning. Over the course of the coming years, we look forward to Northvolt Ett expanding its production capacity greatly to enable the European transition to clean energy”.

Northvolt with its such a huge battery mega-factory has certainly attracted big EV companies in Europe and at the same time, it has given tough competition to others. It is a great step by Northvolt and the steps seem to be proving very beneficial to it.
