Bharat Petroleum has already set up several 25-kilowatt EV fast chargers in the southern part of India. BPCL EV charging stations are likely to combat the major barrier to EV adoption.

Highlights:

  • BPCL is all ready to set up the first 1,000 EV charging stations by October 2022.
  • Several 25kW EV fast chargers were installed by BCPL, mostly in the South.
  • Bharat Petroleum has over more than 19000 outlets all over India ready to be electrified.

On September 2021, Bharat petroleum corporation limited (BPCL) announced that the company is aiming to set up EV charging stations at 7,000 petrol pumps over the next few years all over the country.

Bharat Petroleum has already set up several EV fast chargers of 25 kilowatts in the southern part of India.

As “Bharat Petroleum” has more than 19000 outlets all over India, which is the second largest nationwide network among oil marketing companies (OMC).

With India expecting a shift towards e-mobility and EV ecosystem, the companies having large distribution networks such as BPCL will have a lot of benefits to providing EV charging facilities and infrastructure.

Chennai-Trichy-Madurai route in Tamil Nadu is the first phase of converting petrol pumps to EV energy storage by BPCL, whereas the second phase includes the Bangalore-Chennai highway connecting and the Bangalore-Mysore-Coorg route.

“To provide the current need of energy to the country, for shifting towards electric mobility, BPCL is majorly focusing on the  EV charging infrastructure and energy storage among other major focused segment like renewable energy, biofuels, and gases, etc,” said  Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman & MD of BPCL.

EV Charging infrastructure:

BCPL has taken up a major decision to combat the barrier to EV adoption in India with the announcement of PAN India charging station installation in its fuel pumps. Seems like the company is slowly moving towards a greener alternative to mobility i.e electric vehicles. Major petrol pump providers in India have realized that the future of mobility is electric, so they are now focussing to become CPOs.

Major sites for Ev station installation in India are:

  1. Highways
  2. Petrol Pump premises
  3. Residential Complexes
  4. Cafe/Hotels
  5. Tea gardens
  6. Office premises
  7. Shared parking spaces
