Select Ather 450X owners have experienced a range boost from 105 km to 110 km in eco mode while riding above 20 km/h and battery below 84%

Key Highlights:

  • Activated for Ather 450X Gen 4 and above or backward-compatible for Gen 3 or later.
  • Ather 450X Range boosts up to 15 km while deceleration

Ather Energy, the Indian electric scooter manufacturer, had recently rolled out the much awaited Atherstack 6.0 software update. Post the update, many users on several forums and communities reported that their range got boosted from 105 km to 110 km in eco mode. Let’s understand the reason behind it.

Range Boost in Eco Mode

Many Ather 450X users have reported an increase in range after the Atherstack 6 update. In Eco mode, the range has reportedly improved from 105 km to 110 km. While Ather hasn’t explicitly confirmed the reason behind this boost in range, some users speculate that Coasting Regen plays a significant role behind it. The Atherstack 6.0 update brought a lot of features and improvements, and activation of the regenerative braking system known as “Coasting Regen” was one of them.

Coasting Regen: What Is It?

Coasting Regen, also referred to as Active Regen, is a feature activated after the latest 6.0 update that allows electric scooters to recover energy during deceleration or coasting. When you release the throttle or apply the brakes, the motor acts as a generator, converting kinetic energy back into electrical energy. This energy is then stored in the electric scooter’s battery, thereby offering additional range.

How to activate Coasting Regen in Ather?

Here are some simple steps to activate and make use of the coasting regen to get those extra miles on the odometer:

  • Throttle Twist: While riding, twist the throttle in the opposite direction (about 5 degrees) to activate regenerative braking. This works when you have a battery level below 84% and a speed above 20 km/h
  • Brake Activation: Additionally, Coasting Regen also activates when you apply the brakes. As you brake, the scooter uses regenerative braking to slow down and recharge the battery.

Which Ather Scooters Have Coasting Regen?

Not all Ather models have coasting regen. Only the Ather 450X Gen 4 introduced the coasting regen feature after the Ather stack 6.0 update, allowing the scooter to recover energy while coasting or slowing down.

Additionally, Ather made this feature backward-compatible for all other Ather owners starting from Gen 3 onwards. This means that if you own an Ather 450X Gen 3 or later, you can activate this feature, even if your scooter was originally manufactured without this feature

Similar to this enhanced range and coastal regen, Ather Energy continues to launch new features to enhance the electric scooter riding experience with each software update. Meanwhile, you can read about the latest development from Ather space here: Ather’s IPO could be the next big thing in EV?
