The upcoming Kia EV9 priced at Rs. 90 Lakh is gaining significant love from Auto Experts. Here we compare it against its direct Rival BMW iX to understand it better.
Kia’s EV9 is creating great anticipation among buyers as it nears its India launch, and it’s easy to see why. But when it comes to the high-end electric SUV game, can it compete with the popular BMW iX, a luxury electric SUV that’s already established? Let’s explore both of them in a one-on-one comparison:
Performance and Range
Kia’s EV9 packs a 99.8 kWh battery delivering 384 hp and 700 Nm of torque. You can expect a solid 561 km range per charge, and it sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds. Fast charging capability takes you from 10% to 80% in only 24 minutes.
On the other hand, the BMW iX comes in two options: the iX xDrive40 with a 76.6 kWh battery and 326 hp, and the iX xDrive50 that offers 523 hp from a larger 111.5 kWh battery. Range varies from 425 km to 611 km depending on the model. As for speed, the xDrive40 hits 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds, while the xDrive50 does it in a faster 4.6 seconds.

Design and Dimensions
Kia’s EV9 is a bit of a giant in terms of design. It is 5,015 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and 1,780 mm tall, and it is comparatively bigger than the BMW iX. The EV9 also offers seating for six people, with comfortable middle-row captain chairs. Talking about the color options, you can choose from Snow White Pearl and Panthera Metal.
Meanwhile, the BMW iX is more compact at 4,953 mm long, 1,967 mm wide, and 1,695 mm tall. It seats five, and color options include Alpine White and Phytonic Blue. So, if size matters, the EV9 has the edge over iX.
Features and Technology
The Kia EV9 is tech loaded luxury electric car, creating hype since its showcase at EV Expo 2023. You get dual 12.3-inch screens, a powerful 14-speaker Meridian sound system, great safety ratings, and features with ten airbags and Level 2 ADAS. Plus, there’s a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, triple-zone climate control, and dual sunroofs.
On the other hand, BMW doesn’t lag behind in tech either. The iX features a sleek 14.9-inch curved display, a Harman Kardon sound system, and eight airbags. Safety is covered with Parking Assistant Plus, while heated and ventilated seats plus four-zone climate control add to the comfort.

Price Comparison
Kia’s EV9 is set to start at Rs. 90 Lakhs, which places it directly in the luxury electric SUV segment, competing with its rivals BMW iX and Audi Q8 e-tron.
On the other hand, the BMW iX is already on sale with a starting price of the base model xDrive40 at Rs. 1.21 Crore, and if you want the more powerful xDrive50 variant, that’ll cost you Rs. 1.32 crore.
Our Stand
If you’re after a luxury electric SUV with a roomy interior, strong range, and impressive features, the Kia EV9 seems like a great option. But if brand prestige, cutting-edge technology, and power are on your wishlist, the BMW iX could be the car for you.
