Bajaj Auto confirms the launch of the much anticipated upgraded variant of the Bhajaj Chetak EV with a 2.9 kWh battery offering 123 km of range.

India’s leading two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto is set to expand its electric portfolio with the launch announcement of its much anticipated electric scooter – the Chetak 2903, with a vision to achieve monthly sales of 100,000 clean energy vehicles by the upcoming festive season. It is expected to be the upgraded variant of the currently available 2901 variant. Before its launch, we got a little sneak peek into its features and performance. Let’s delve into those details.

Key Features

In terms of its features, the Bajaj Chetak 2903 will be placed above the existing Chetak 2901 variant. While the overall design remains similar to the 2901 variant, Bajaj Auto intends to introduce fresh color options to enhance the visual appeal of the upgraded variant.

Some key features include a Push Button Start, LCD Digital Cluster, automatic transmission, and a combined braking system. The 2903 variant will get additional safety features, making it a compelling choice for urban commuters.

Performance and Range:

Powered by a 2.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack similar to the 2901 variant, the Bajaj Chetak 2903 boasts an impressive ARAI-certified range of 123 km on a single charge. However, the real-world range is expected to be around 90-100 km, which is still great for daily commuting.

In terms of performance, the new Chetak EV is powered by a 4 kW electric motor ensuring a top speed of 63 km/h. The running cost of the new Chetak EV is calculated to be around Rs. 0.15/km (depending on the cost of electricity per kW).

Fast Charging Capability

Electric scooter enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for a fast charging upgrade since the launch of the first variant. So. here’s some good news for e-scooter fans, the Chetak 2903 will feature fast charging technology with a charging time of approximately 4 to 6 hours for a full charge.

This addresses the common concern of slow charging among electric scooter owners, allowing riders to recharge their scooters rapidly during short stops.

The Chetak EV 2903 is priced at approximately Rs 1.2 lakh(ex-showroom) in India. It is an upgraded variant of the existing 2901 model with a price difference of Rs 22,000. Despite the slight price increase, Bajaj Auto has positioned the Chetak EV 2903 as an affordable electric scooter option in India.
