14 EV Charging Stations to be set up at the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway

The 117 km long and most anticipated Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway of the state is now ready to have 14 electric vehicle charging stations under the Phase II of the FAME initiative.

Bengaluru, 09th October: The 10-Lane Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway is ready to get 14 electric vehicle charging stations along the highway.

Expected to be ready by mid-2022, the 117 kilometers long highway will shorten the time to reach Bengaluru from Mysuru to 90 minutes which is almost half as compared to now.

These 14 electric vehicle charging centers are proposed by the central government under the Phase II of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) initiative.

While replying to the question asked by Rebati Tripura and Anurag Sharma in the Lok Sabha session, the union minister of state for heavy industries Krishna Pal Gujjar stated that just like the Mysuru-Bengaluru expressway there are other eight expressways and corridors for which a total of 184 electric vehicle charging stations are proposed under the Phase II of FAME.

He further shared a document where it was stated that 172 EV charging stations will be set up across the state. Currently, 48 charging stations are already being installed in the state under the FAME Phase II.

Jayavibhava Swamy, MD, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Ltd (CESC)  stated that CESC Mysore is given work to set up 10 charging stations in Mysuru and Mandya districts.

Charging Station Locations:

 Mr. Swamy said, “We wrote to the National Highway Authority looking for sites to open up electric vehicle charging stations, we plan to install these charging stations for electric vehicles near restaurants, tolls, etc. where the vehicles stop, ”

Swamy said that the CESC Mysore has created a roadmap to install charging stations for electric vehicles. Their specific targets are those areas where people mostly go with their vehicle, for example, restaurants, malls, and other hangout areas. They are also planning to work with resident wellness associations and clubs so that everyone can contribute to this matter.

“We only charge Rs 5 per unit of electricity used for recharging electric vehicles. We plan to hold a meeting with all stakeholders to popularize the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles in their premises in the coming days”, Mr. Swamy further added.
