MG Comet EV Review
MG Motors launched the most versatile compact electric car MG Comet EV for the price conscious Indian customers. It is a perfect personal mobility vehicle for Indian roads. MG Comet EV falls in the segment of electric cars in India under 5 lakhs. We had the MG Comet EV in house for a review, here’s what we uncovered:
MG Comet EV Interior
Having had the opportunity to test drive the electric car, the MG Comet EV interior surprised me with tons of features in this price segment. As soon as I entered the car, I could feel the modern and sophisticated vibe representing a electric car. What really made me excited about driving the car was the cockpit, designed with the driver in mind, making it comfortable and practical. The highlight of the MG Comet EV interior was the floating dual 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and the digital instrument cluster that showed important information like battery status and driving modes. With customizable widgets, the infotainment screen hosts 55 connected features which works seamlessly without any lag. It was really cool because I could connect my smartphone wirelessly and access my favorite apps and music with ease. The interface was easy to use, and I could navigate through menus and controls smoothly. The voice command system was a game-changer too. I could control different functions without taking my hands off the wheel or my eyes off the road, which was convenient and safe. Comfort and class was a top priority in the MG Comet EV as the interior materials felt high-quality white plastic with silver finish and chrome detailing. I liked how the manual AC controls and storage compartments were well-placed, so I could easily access my essentials. Other promising MG Comet EV features include the rear camera, manual AC, power windows, electronic boot release, and three USB ports. Out of the three ports, one is under the IRVM for adding dashcam and other two under the dashboard. Moreover, there was plenty of legroom for both the driver and passengers in the MG Comet EV. But the lack of footwell separation and under thigh support can be a bit uncomfortable added to the raised floor due to the underfloor battery placement. Front seat is comfortable with plenty of headroom and the rear seats can fit two people comfortably which be accessed by pressing the knob since it is a two door EV. The Comet EV has large door pockets and minimal boot space, however the rear seats can be folded to hold two or more luggage bags. In conclusion, the interior of the MG Comet EV exceeded my expectations. It combined technology, comfort, and thoughtful design in a fantastic way. Whether you love technology or just want a comfortable and connected driving experience, you’ll definitely be impressed by the interior of the MG Comet EV.

MG Comet EV Exterior
MG Comet EV exterior has a sleek and modern deisgn unlike any other electric car in India, with a shape that made it more aerodynamic. I loved the LED light bars at the front and back, which gave the car a electric touch. The dual-pod LED projector headlamps were fantastic, providing excellent visibility even in dark conditions. The LED tail lights not only looked cool but also made sure that other drivers could easily see the car. The MG Comet EV is 1.5 meters wide and 3 meters long with a height over 1.6 meters. One thing that stood out to me was the 12-inch steel wheels which didn’t looked that great in the tall car. The turn indicators on the front were placed horizontally, and a large second row glass window added a touch of class to the car’s look. Having 5 color options and 7 sticker packs, MG is offering a true customisation experience to its buyers. Overall, the exterior design of the MG Comet EV was a perfect combination of style and practicality. It showed how MG is dedicated to creating innovative designs with the latest technology.

MG Comet EV Performance

Having personally taken the MG Comet EV for a test drive, I was thoroughly impressed with its performance in this price segment. The 17.3kW battery pack generates a maximum power of 41bhp and 110Nm of torque. The three regenerative braking system intelligently converted the kinetic energy into electric power, further enhancing the overall efficiency and range. During the test drive, the Comet EV showcased great handling and agility. Having a responsive steering and compact size, the Comet EV easily passes through the city traffic The suspension and the 165mm of ground clearance effectively absorbed road imperfections, ensuring a comfortable ride. The MG Comet EV comes with three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sports. The Comet EV’s electric drivetrain offers a range of up to 210km on a single charge, making it a practical choice for daily urban comutes. However, we could not do a proper range test due to time shortage, but we will update on this soon. In terms of charging, the Comet EV lacks fast charging capabilities, and takes around 5 hours to get charged from 0-100% using a 3.3kW AC Charger. The MG Comet EV is undoubtedly an example of MG’s commitment to delivering high-performance and affordable electric vehicles that excel in both efficiency and driving dynamics.

MG Comet EV Boot Space

Considering the size of MG Comet EV, the boot space is very small with charger box and repair kit already present. However there is a option to fold the rear seats individually to make space for some luggage. We somehow managed to fit the camera gears while doing the review.
Ecogears Verdict
The MG Comet EV is affordable and mediocre electric car for the Indian market having a compact size for the urban commute and loaded with essential features. In terms of performance it works pretty well for a car in this price segment. With low running cost and seamless charging options, and affordable MG Comet EV price, it can be a great buy as a additional car to experience electric mobility.
